403198Montreal is probably one of the only cities in the country that it makes sense to date your fill-ins since they could ride for many years. When we in Montreal in the early 2000’s it was HYH holding it down – Damo, Sake, Loes and Shok. So we were pretty hyped seeing a roller still holding on after at least 13 years. We were lucky to visit Montreal a few weeks ago to wander around in the winter wonderland. They pile up snow like they pile on the smoked meat. We had not been in the graffiti mecca of Canada for 12+ years, which is quite sad. It is great to see familiar folks crushing it with new kids painting like mad. Montreal graffiti is certainly alive and well. We hope to share a wide range of photos we took over the next month giving you a small taste of what this beautiful city has to offer for graffiti.

Rumor has it that Montreal graffiti legend Akira (CBF – Crayo Burn Factory) passed away recently.  We wanted to share some of his own comments about the first full scale production  he painted in1989. “The first Hip Hop mural is the Westmount High School Gymnasium I have the original sketch and the photo’s of the mural before and after 20th anniversary. It was sponsored by Rust-oleum Corporation – Tom Reed the president himself with the help of the Canadian Rust-oleum Corporation made the sponsorship happen. I started sketching graff in 1983 I was ten years old.I started using spray at eleven years old. The first Masterpiece made in montreal is still alive and well in the W.H.S Gymnasium,Twentieth anniversary,I was 16 years old.”
