Rumor has it that Montreal graffiti legend Akira (CBF – Crayo Burn Factory) passed away recently. We wanted to share some of his own comments about the first full scale production he painted in1989. “The first Hip Hop mural is the Westmount High School Gymnasium I have the original sketch and the photo’s of the mural before and after 20th anniversary. It was sponsored by Rust-oleum Corporation – Tom Reed the president himself with the help of the Canadian Rust-oleum Corporation made the sponsorship happen. I started sketching graff in 1983 I was ten years old.I started using spray at eleven years old. The first Masterpiece made in montreal is still alive and well in the W.H.S Gymnasium,Twentieth anniversary,I was 16 years old.”
